GFA To Change Laws To Allow Presidents To Go For Three Terms With Two Vice Presidents

There have been reports that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) intends to change its laws so that the president can serve for a three-year term and that there can be two vice presidents.

In 2019, the Normalisation Committee, chaired by Dr. Kofi Amoah, set a limit of a maximum of two four-year terms for the GFA presidency. Vice presidents are limited to three terms in office under present law, as are members of the Executive Council.

According to Joy Sports, the GFA’s Laws Review Committee allegedly gave the ExCo the aforementioned proposals.

But the GFA’s Statutes Review Committee is reportedly suggesting an extension of the term limits for the presidency, as reported by Joy Sports.

The Committee is said to have advocated in a report to the Executive Council that Congress permit a maximum of three consecutive terms as president. They also propose two vice presidents for the Ghana FA, one of whom must be a woman in order to lead the organisation’s women’s football programmes.

According to the report, the committee also wants the Executive Council to expand from 12 to 23 members in order to accommodate regional football association representatives.

A committee under the direction of Randy Abbey, the GFA’s attorney Frederick Acheampong, Naa Odofoley Nortey, CEO of Great Olympics, Oluboi Commodore, and Eric Oppong Yeboah, CEO of Pacific Heroes, presented the idea to the Executive Council.
