Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has filed a defamation lawsuit against former Environment Minister, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, for the accusations made against him in the minister’s Galamsey report.

According to myjoyonline.com, Gabby is asking for GH10 million in compensation. In the latest news today, Prof. Frimpong Boateng is being sued on grounds of slander for his report on the former Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, which he supervised.

The names of NPP officials who are reportedly preventing the fight against illegal mining have been released in a report produced by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) in 2021, over a week ago.

The report mentions several well-known figures, including the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, Gabby Othere-Darko, Laud Commey, and Joseph Quam. They have denied any wrongdoing, but it has been suggested that Frimpong-Boateng may have been just as guilty.

According to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report, Gabby was a constant bother when the IMCIM was discussing removing the Imperial Heritage.

“We were ready to dislodge Imperial Heritage from Kobro Forest when Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko called to inform me that he was the lawyer for Heritage Imperial Limited, a company that was destroying the Kobro and Apaprama Forest Reserves and in the process had also polluted and diverted the course of the River Offin, as can be seen in the satellite images below. I informed the President about the behaviour of Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and he promised to deal with it” Prof. Frimpong-Boateng state.
