The highly publicized union between Chief Biney, a leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Afia Akoto, a stalwart of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially come to an end.
After five years of marriage, Afia Akoto has presented the final bottle of Schnapp, marking the dissolution of their traditional marriage.
Nana Amoasi VII of the Institute of Energy Security confirmed the news in a social media post, expressing gratitude for how far both parties had come.
“A few hours ago, I gladly received a bottle of Schnapp as evidence of the final dissolution of the traditional marriage between my brother Chief Biney and Afia Akoto. Thanks to Afia and her family,” he wrote.
For many, their marriage was more than just a personal affair—it was a rare union between two individuals from Ghana’s most dominant and rival political parties.
While their love story initially symbolized unity beyond political lines, their divorce has left many questioning whether political and ideological differences played a role in their split.
Chief Biney, in his own post, reflected on the end of the journey, writing, “A Man’s heart plans his ways, but God Almighty directs his steps.
“Where God guides, he provides. That journey five years ago has traditionally and officially ended successfully in JESUS’ name. God, I am grateful for this day.”
