Some Never Shouted ‘Kukurudu’ But Feel Entitled – Afia Akoto Slams Former CEOs for Refusing to Step Down

Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Afia Akoto, has openly criticized some former CEOs who are refusing to vacate their offices after their tenure, describing their actions as embarrassing and disappointing.

“I am so embarrassed by the attitude of some former CEOs refusing to vacate their offices and allowing themselves to be the subject of discussions this week. It is difficult to say this because one of them I personally know,” she remarked.

Akoto believes that many of these individuals secured their positions not through their dedication to the party but because of their family ties to influential figures.

“But respectfully, next time when appointing people into office, let’s be sure they personally contributed to the struggles of the party and not because they have relatives that contributed to it. Some never shouted kukurudu nor 3ye zu but feel entitled to act in both administrations,” she stated.

Her reference to “kukurudu” and “3ye zu” — the battle cries of the NPP and NDC respectively — implies that some individuals enjoyed the benefits of political appointments without actively fighting for their party’s cause.

This, she argues, is a flaw in Ghana’s political system, where party loyalty and grassroots contributions are often overlooked in favor of nepotism.

Akoto further lamented that true party foot soldiers, who sacrifice their resources and reputation for the party, are often sidelined while others, who neither faced political attacks nor supported the party’s base, feel entitled to positions.

“These are the people NDC’s foot soldiers never dragged in the gutters, nor NPP foot soldiers benefited from, yet feel more entitled than those of us who have been battered and beaten virtually on social media by our opponents and even supported our base from our own resources,” she said.

Her message was a call to action, urging party loyalists, whom she referred to as “NDC 5000 men and 3000 women,” to ensure that political transitions are handled smoothly and fairly.
