Fireboy DML's Biography

Adedamola Adefolahan, 27 years old, is a Nigerian singer professionally known as Fireboy DML, was born and nurtured in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Fireboy DML was a member of his church choir . He became interested in music during his time at Obafemi Awolowo University.

Music Career

He is signed to the record label YBNL Nation, which was founded by the Nigerian rapper Olamide.

His breakthrough single “Jealous” debuted on the 2018 collaborative album YBNL Mafia Family by YBNL Nation and was re-released on March 25, 2019. The song consists of guitar riffs, traditional drums, and percussion; it incorporates African harmonies with country and soul music elements. “Jealous” was produced by Cracker Mallo and focuses on love and the complex emotions that accompany it. Director K. directed the “Jealous” music video.

Fireboy DML released his romantic single “What If I Say” on June 14, 2019. It was produced by Pheelz, who utilised a combination of percussion, ambient synth harmonies, and a drum rhythm. TG Omori directed the music video for “What If I Say.”

On 1 August 2019, Fireboy DML dropped a new single titled “King” in which he declares his worth to his love interest. The accompanying music video for “King” was directed by TG Omori; it features images of Fireboy and his love interest in a rose petal-decorated Rolls-Royce, as well as images of him performing at a runway fashion show.

On November 29, 2019, Fireboy DML released his debut studio album, “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps (LTG)“. Initially, the release date was set for November 25. The music on the album is an R&B style that combines love and social issues with empirical composition.

LTG contains 13 tracks and no guest artists; three days after its release, it accumulated over 6 million streams on Spotify. It was criticised for being labelled a “Afro-Life” record instead of an R&B album, despite receiving largely positive reviews from music critics. LTG was supported by the recordings “Jealous”, “What If I Say”, and “King” “Vibration” was an audience favourite single.

In 2021, Fireboy DML released the single “Peru,” which, according to Music in Africa, “affirms [his] Afrobeats intelligence.” He was featured on the successful singles “Running” by Ladipoe, “Be My Guest” by WSTRN, and “History” by Cheque.

He performed a medley of “Vibration,” from Tears, Laughter, and Goosebumps, and “Champion,” from Apollo, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Peru featuring Ed Sheeran was released on 24 December 2021; it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number two on the Official Singles Chart in the United Kingdom in 2022.

Fireboy was featured on the Sickick remix of Madonna’s 1998 single “Frozen” on 3 March 2022. On the same day, the official music video was also filmed.

Fireboy announced on his official Twitter account on 6 July 2022 that his third studio album titled “PLAYBOY” would be released on 5 August 2022.
