The Nigerian music industry, vibrant and influential, has seen tremendous growth in recent years, with Afrobeats emerging as a global phenomenon.
However, amidst this flourishing landscape, some artists express concerns about the quality and integrity of the music being produced. One such artist is Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger.
Recently, he shared his discontent regarding the influx of untalented musicians who, despite lacking genuine artistry, manage to achieve mainstream success, largely due to their financial resources.

In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Ruger articulated his frustration about the current state of the music scene.
He lamented that many artists who produce subpar music can rise to prominence simply because they can afford extensive promotional campaigns. According to Ruger, this trend is disheartening, as it undermines the dedication and talent of true musicians who strive to create meaningful art.
He expressed that it “sickens” him to witness a landscape where financial backing often trumps musical talent, stating, “The music scene has been hurting me because no matter how mediocre an artist is, once there’s money for hype, they gain traction.”
