2Face’s (Tubaba) iconic status during his prime has been further solidified by Nigerian music mogul, Dayo ‘D1’ Adeneye, who reminisced about a time when women were fainting during the legendary musician’s performances.
D1 shared this captivating story during an episode of the ‘Deep Dive’ podcast hosted by comedian and actor, Teju Babyface.
According to him, at one of Tubaba’s concerts in Ivory Coast, four female fans fainted in the audience while the ‘African Queen’ singer belted out his popular tunes on stage.
The former director of Kennis Music, the record label that signed Tubaba, highlighted the label’s peak period when it boasted over 50 artists.
He also emphasized Tubaba’s dominance and universal appeal, citing instances where fans from French-speaking countries sang along to his songs despite not understanding the lyrics.
He said; “At the height of Kennis Music, we had over 50 artistes on the label. Lagbaja was signed to us. We had everybody, from gospel to hip-hop to fuji.
“We’ve been at a couple of shows where I’ve seen girls faint when 2Face was performing. I went on a tour in Ivory Coast, and brought a girl on stage and she hugged 2Face and passed out. During that concert, four girls fainted.
“These were people who didn’t speak English but they knew the lyrics of all his songs word-for-word. This was a francophone country and four girls fainted. We thought it was a joke but an ambulance had to carry them. They fainted just because they were in the presence of 2Face.”
