In a bombshell interview on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa on January 9, 2025, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made explosive claims against the outgoing government of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Gbande alleged that members of the previous administration had been involved in unethical activities, including bugging the presidency in an attempt to gather intelligence on the incoming NDC government.
“We had intel that as they were exiting the presidency, they were bugging the building so that they can have more information from the NDC and the incoming government,” Gbande said, accusing the former regime of harboring sinister motives.
“They are evil-minded people,” he added, further condemning the actions as an example of the government’s underhanded tactics.

The allegations come at a time of heightened political tension in Ghana, where the transition of power has often been marked by a mix of cooperation and suspicion.
The NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections has reignited some old rivalries, with both parties taking jabs at each other over their respective tenures in office.
Gbande didn’t stop there. He claimed that the previous government’s actions went beyond mere espionage.
“We had evil people occupying the seat so we need to cleanse and purify the place,” he stated, referencing the need for a “spiritual purification” of the presidency. “They have to check the security and make sure the place is secured.
“You don’t think that the presidency requires some level of spiritual purification and security when the people have defrauded God with money?” Gbande remarked, alluding to corruption allegations that have plagued the Akufo-Addo administration during its time in power.
