Empathy, Not Mockery- Afia Pokuaa Addresses Tragedy Involving Bishop Amoako’s Son

Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokuaa has shared her thoughts on the recent heartbreaking incident involving the son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, which tragically led to the deaths of two young girls. In a frank discussion, Afia emphasized the gravity of the situation and pointed out where responsibility lies, particularly as the case has now reached court and the parents face charges.

“It’s clear,” she said. “If the police can prove that the parents were negligent—like allowing their son access to the car keys, knowing the potential risks involved—there will be serious repercussions.” She explained that while the son, being a juvenile, might face a maximum of three years in a juvenile facility under Ghana’s Juvenile Justice Act of 2008, the consequences for the parents could be much more severe.

“If videos or evidence show that the boy was speeding or had a history of reckless driving before the accident, it’s going to make things worse for the parents in court. It will suggest this wasn’t a one-time thing, but rather an ongoing problem,” Afia noted. Her words shed light on the possible legal ramifications the parents might face if negligence is proven, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

Drawing parallels to an incident in the United States, Afia recounted how parents were jailed after failing to prevent their child from accessing a gun, which led to a tragic school shooting. “It’s similar,” she explained. “If parents know their child could be a danger in certain situations, whether it’s driving or something else, they have a duty to step in. Ignoring that responsibility can have deadly consequences.”

Afia also used this moment to remind people of the dangers of social media, cautioning against reckless posts that could come back to haunt individuals, particularly in legal cases. “We live in a world where people document everything online. What you post today could be evidence in court tomorrow,” she warned, highlighting how such content could potentially impact the case.

In her closing remarks, Afia urged the public to approach the situation with compassion rather than ridicule. “This is a tragedy, and while it’s easy to point fingers or mock Bishop Amoako, let’s remember the bigger picture. Parenting is tough in today’s world, and incidents like this remind us to be vigilant, to be present, and to take our responsibilities seriously,” she said.
