EC To Supervise NDC Primaries Elections Since All Legal Restrictions Have Been Cleared

The election management agency, the Electoral Commission, has announced that all legal obstacles have been cleared and that it will be supervising the National Democratic Congress primaries on May 13, 2023.

The EC stated that Dr. Kwabena Duffour and Mr. Edgar Asamoah Boateng had withdrawn their application for an injunction to stop the EC from holding the NDC primaries.

After it was revealed on Thursday that a flagbearer aspirant of the NDC filed for an injunction against the elections due to inconsistencies in the photo album of delegates to be used for voting on Saturday, the EC issued a statement on Thursday warning the NDC to clear itself of all legal conflicts before it would supervise the election.

His legal team had asked for the lawsuit to be dropped, and the judge granted their request. The Electoral Commission (EC) and the NDC’s legal staff both had no objections. A parliamentary hopeful, Mr. Edgar Asamoah Boateng, also withdrew his candidature on Friday morning.

The party claims it will abandon the picture album in favour of other campaign materials. There will be 420 polling locations for the anticipated 356,024 voters. A maximum of 1,200 delegates are allowed in each polling location. Delegates will need to use a delegate list and present a legitimate national voter ID issued by the EC in order to cast a ballot at polling places.

There are 117 candidates competing for seats in Accra, 107 in Kumasi, and 75 in the Volta region, making that region the third most competitive region.

A statement released by the EC late on Friday night confirmed that it is prepared to supervise the elections and that measures are being taken to guarantee a free and fair election.
