At the 53rd Cadet Officers’ Graduation Parade at the National Police Training School in Tesano on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia praised the Ghana Police Service for their remarkable commitment to supporting the families of the East Legon accident victims.

His commendation was especially poignant in light of the recent tragic accident at East Legon in Accra, which claimed the lives of two young girls.

“The behind-the-scenes private engagements that the IGP, as well as his regional commanders, and the team to commiserate with victims of crime is highly commendable,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.

“In fact, I’m particularly touched by the recent visit of the IGP and his management team to the families and victims of the recent tragic accident at East Legon in Accra that claimed the lives of two innocent young ladies.

This level of commitment goes beyond the call of duty and I will entreat the graduating class to learn from the police leadership.”

This heartfelt commendation came after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his team made a private visit to console the families affected by the tragic incident.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of such compassionate acts, noting that they exemplify the dedication and humanity required in law enforcement.

The East Legon accident, which occurred recently, resulted in the deaths of two young girls, Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh Baah.

The incident sent shockwaves throughout the community, highlighting the devastating impact of road accidents on families and the urgent need for improved road safety measures.

In his speech, Dr Bawumia urged the graduating cadet officers to emulate the compassionate leadership displayed by the IGP and his team.

He stressed that policing is not just about enforcing laws but also about providing support and empathy to those affected by the tragedy.
