Dzifa Gomashie’s Experience Makes Her the Perfect Fit – George Quaye

Renowned actor, media personality, and events consultant George Quaye has strongly endorsed Ablah Dzifa Gomashie as the perfect candidate to lead Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

Speaking passionately on United Television’s United Showbiz programme, Quaye emphasized the importance of experience and wisdom in managing such a pivotal sector, especially under a government pressed for time to deliver results.

“If there is any government that doesn’t have time, it is this government. This is not the time to try people,” Quaye explained, hinting at the urgency of the current administration’s agenda. “So if you look at the trend, the man is using a lot of wisdom to select people. The man is looking at experience.”

Quaye’s comments come amidst ongoing debates within the creative arts sector, with some stakeholders advocating for new faces to inject fresh ideas into leadership.

However, he argued that Dzifa Gomashie’s unique blend of experience in both the arts and tourism makes her a standout choice.

Drawing from her time as a Deputy Minister of Tourism, she has the advantage of familiarity with the ministry’s demands while possessing the practical know-how to address them effectively.

“This is an industry that says it wants one of us, and we have one of us in there already who, beyond everything else, has the experience,” Quaye remarked. “She does not have only experience in Arts but also in Tourism.”

He pointed out that Mahama’s government, given its limited time frame, must prioritize competence over sentiment.

“Mahama cannot follow the sentiments of the people in the industry; then you’ll choose people they want. But for a party that does not have time, you need someone who has been there before, someone who has learnt from their experience so that they are supported by the people who are around,” he added.
