Twitter influencer Kaly Jay has voiced his discontent after prominent Ghanaian blogger Ameyaw Debrah posted a collage of him and Kwadwo Sheldon on Twitter, asking followers to sum up the two in a single word.
While the post seemed harmless to some, it reopened old wounds between Kaly Jay and Kwadwo Sheldon, two of Ghana’s most well-known social media personalities with a history of public tension.
Kaly Jay responded by resharing the tweet with a polite yet firm request: “Boss, please don’t make me lose the respect I have for you.” His words carried a subtle but pointed reminder of the long-standing discord with Sheldon and a frustration with being associated in this way.
Their history of clashes has been fueled by differing viewpoints, especially following Kaly Jay’s lead in the popular “Fix the Country” movement, which called for better governance and accountability in Ghana.
Sheldon, known for his blunt social commentary, questioned the movement’s impact, leading to a series of exchanges that widened the rift between the two.
The recent post by Debrah likely struck a nerve with Kaly Jay, who has made efforts to establish his voice apart from any association with Sheldon.
What might have seemed like an innocuous comparison to Debrah highlighted the frustration Kaly Jay feels at being repeatedly linked with a peer whose values and approach contrast sharply with his own.
Sheldon’s often satirical and occasionally confrontational content style is a marked departure from Kaly Jay’s socially driven humour and calls for change.
While it’s uncertain if this episode will escalate their feud further, it serves as a reminder of the unique pressures influencers face in the public eye, particularly when constantly measured against each other.
