In a bold and unusual move, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wugon, has urged constituents to send him their voter ID numbers and mobile money (MoMo) details for fuel support.
This statement, delivered via a social media post, immediately set the political landscape abuzz with reactions ranging from praise for his generosity to criticism over perceived ethical concerns.

“DM me your voters ID and your momo number for fuel,” Dumelo declared, framing the offer as a way to assist constituents who might face challenges commuting to polling stations.

However, the timing of his message has drawn significant attention as it followed his public accusation against Lydia Seyram Alhassan, his opponent from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for allegedly distributing items to voters in an attempt to sway their decision.
This gesture has further deepened the contrasts between the two candidates.
Dumelo, a household name in the entertainment industry turned politician, has built his campaign around accessibility and grassroots connection, often adopting unorthodox methods to engage voters.
Alhassan, on the other hand, has focused on leveraging her incumbency and aligning her campaign with the NPP’s national agenda.
