The Ayawaso West Wugon constituency is once again in the spotlight, with tensions flaring between the Parliamentary candidates as accusations of voter inducement take centre stage.
John Dumelo, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has publicly criticized his opponent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for allegedly distributing items to voters during the ongoing elections.
The incident has sparked widespread attention, highlighting the fierce rivalry between the two contenders vying for the seat.
Expressing his frustration at a polling centre, Dumelo did not hold back, accusing Alhassan’s camp of unethical behaviour.
“Lydia is sharing things to people who have not voted yet, and she is sharing things to the people in the line, which is bad. What kind of stupidity is this? If this is what she wants to bring, I will give her a showdown today… today!” his voice rang with palpable anger and determination.
The Ayawaso West Wugon race has always been fiercely contested, drawing national interest due to its historical competitiveness.
Dumelo, a popular actor turned politician, has emerged as a symbol of change, leveraging his influence among the youth and the creative arts community.
