DaBaby has reached an agreement in his felony battery case, opting for a misdemeanour charge.
The incident occurred when a California homeowner accused the rapper of assaulting him during an unauthorized video shoot at his rental property in December 2020.
DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, entered a guilty plea to misdemeanour battery through his attorney, Blair Berk.
He was placed on one year of probation and given credit for the day he spent in custody following his 2021 arrest.
Moreover, he was instructed to pay $10,000 in restitution, maintain distance from the victim, and refrain from possessing any deadly weapons.
The more severe charge of felony battery with serious bodily injury was dismissed by the District Attorney’s office due to challenges in proving the injury during trial.
Had Kirk been convicted of the original charge, he could have faced up to four years in prison.
The victim, Gary Pagar, provided a written statement to the court and is also pursuing a civil case against DaBaby for fraud, breach of contract, and battery.
The civil case trial is scheduled to commence in September.
Pagar claims that Kirk violated the terms of the rental agreement by hosting a large video shoot at the property, which was only supposed to accommodate a maximum of 12 people due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Pagar showed up in person to enforce the lease agreement, and according to the lawsuit, Kirk supposedly assaulted him by punching him in the face, resulting in the loss of a tooth and sustaining bruises and cuts.
Pagar claims that Kirk, along with a group of men, attacked him in front of his house, engaging in physical aggression, verbal abuse, and damaging his property. They also allegedly took his phone and scratched his car with keys.
