Former musician and political commentator Kwame A Plus has taken to Facebook to share a bold message from Honorable Cynthia Morrison, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who has declared to contest the next parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
A Plus relayed that Morrison is considering resigning from the party if certain behaviours persist, a move that could potentially shift the power dynamics within Parliament.
“Honorable Cynthia Morrison has asked me to convey a message to Afenyo Markin: if they continue to misbehave, she will resign from the party today, which would leave the NPP as the minority in parliament.
She has already prepared her resignation letter and wants them to know that the decision is now in their hands,” A Plus stated in his post. He concluded with a light-hearted note, emphasizing his role as a “happy messenger” of this significant message.
With the NPP’s already fragile majority, Morrison’s resignation could mark a turning point for the party.
Many analysts suggest that if she follows through on her threat, it may embolden other dissatisfied members to take similar action, leading to a significant realignment of power in Parliament. “The situation is precarious,” noted political analyst Dr. Kofi Agyekum.
“The NPP cannot afford to lose more members, especially when the opposition is already gaining ground.”
The implications of Morrison’s potential departure extend beyond party politics. Her independent run could resonate with voters who feel disillusioned with traditional party dynamics.
