Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy has reaffirmed his deep connection to African music, emphasizing that his sound is fundamentally rooted in Black culture.
Speaking on AfroVibes in New York monitored by Ghanastreetjournal.com, he described his music as a fusion of Afrobeat and dancehall, both of which originate from Africa.
“My music is music of Black origin. Another word to get familiar with is Afro-dancehall. The ‘Afro’ stands for Afrobeat, Africa, and the African sound, while dancehall also has African roots.
“When you put everything together, you realize my music is hugely influenced by music of Black origin.”
Beyond creating hits, Stonebwoy sees himself as a bridge uniting Black people worldwide through his craft.
“Music is a spiritual entity on its own, and everyone has their reason for making it. For me, I have to use it well for its purpose—to unite nations and people.
“That’s why I don’t put myself in a box.”
