The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry.
In a letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, CLOGSAG stated that its National Executive Council (NEC) had met on February 11 to deliberate on the matter.
The association strongly opposes the appointment, describing Botchway as a “politically exposed person” and insisting that such appointments compromise the neutrality of the civil service.

According to CLOGSAG, the appointment of Mr. Botchway is a violation of professional principles that require civil service positions to be free from political influence. Despite their objections, he officially assumed office on February 12, prompting the association to take decisive action.
As a result, CLOGSAG has directed all its members to stay home from Thursday, February 20, 2025, until further notice.
The association emphasized that it had no choice but to call for the strike, as previous concerns over similar appointments had been ignored. It remains to be seen whether government authorities will engage with CLOGSAG to resolve the issue.
