Nigerian comedian AY Makun has called out online critics for their insensitive takes on celebrity divorces.
His remarks follow the shocking revelation that music legend 2Face Idibia and his wife, Annie Idibia, are heading for a divorce, a topic that has since dominated online conversations.
While many social media users engaged in heated debates, some took to blaming either 2Face or Annie for the collapse of their marriage.
Others, including gossip blogs, spun narratives about infidelity, betrayal, and unresolved marital issues, fueling speculation with little regard for the emotional toll on those involved.
In response, AY slammed the critics, urging them to practice empathy rather than capitalizing on people’s pain for content and entertainment.

“Instead of casting blame in broken marriages that you know nothing about, why not focus on the reasons why the institution itself is under attack? No one goes in with a plan to fail.
It’s troubling to see online in-laws and blogs revel in sensationalism, often at the expense of those hurting. Real lives are involved—let’s choose empathy over drama and content. Some of you will never rest until you lead a fellow human to suicide,” he stated.
AY’s passionate statement highlights a growing problem in digital culture, where the personal struggles of celebrities become viral talking points rather than moments for reflection and understanding.
