Chioma Akpotha Opens Up About Escaping a Dark Family Legacy

Nigerian actress Chioma Akpotha, widely known for her powerful performance in Femi Adebayo’s hit Netflix series Seven Doors, has shared a deeply personal and emotional story of how she broke free from an ancestral curse that had plagued her family for generations.

During an interview on Channels Television, Chioma recounted how her family’s dark history and an untold legacy of suffering led to her decision to abandon her ancestral name, Omuka, in an attempt to escape the curse tied to it.

“Our family name used to be Omuka. I abandoned it because of the generational curse tied to it,” Chioma revealed, her voice steady but filled with emotion.

She went on to explain the origins of the curse, which she traced back to an atrocity committed by her ancestors. “They buried slaves alive, and those slaves cursed our lineage. They condemned us to a cycle of untimely and mysterious deaths.”

The curse, she explained, wasn’t just a myth passed down through the generations, but a relentless and painful reality her family lived with for decades.

“We lived with it for decades,” Chioma said, her eyes reflecting the weight of her words. “The curse manifested as premature deaths among the youth in my family. It was like a shadow we couldn’t escape.”

For Chioma, the loss of young family members and the constant fear of untimely death were unbearable. She recalled how the curse seemed to strike at the heart of her family’s future, stealing the lives of those who should have had the chance to thrive.

In the face of this dark history, Chioma and her father made a powerful decision: they would fight back with their faith.

“My father and I prayed endlessly,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion. “We held onto our faith with everything we had because we refused to let this dark legacy define us.”

Their prayers became a daily ritual, a powerful act of defiance against the curse that had held their family in its grip for so long.

Their determination to break free grew stronger with each passing day. “That was our dream,” Chioma reflected, her determination palpable. “We wanted to prove that no curse, no matter how deep, could hold us down forever.”
