Showmax is set to debut 4 Play, an adult-rated drama that delves into the intricate lives of four men as they navigate love, friendship, and survival in the vibrant city of Nairobi.

Slated to premiere on November 21, 4 Play promises to offer an honest, unvarnished look at the personal struggles and triumphs of these characters as they balance ambition, loyalty, and the chaos of urban life.

This series carries particular significance as it is the final project of Charles Ouda, a gifted actor and scriptwriter who tragically passed away on February 3, 2024, at the age of 38.

The cause of his death remains unknown, as his family has chosen to remain silent on the matter, leaving fans and industry insiders to speculate.

Ouda was well-known in Kenyan entertainment circles, and his untimely passing has left a profound impact. His work in 4 Play will serve as a lasting tribute to his contribution to Kenyan television, capturing the essence of his talent and vision.

4 Play is produced by James Kombo of CJ3 Entertainment, the same producer behind Pepeta.

It features a talented lineup of directors, including Mwangi Rurengo (Pepeta), Janet Chumbe (Faithless), and Mkaiwai Mwakaba, who makes her directorial debut on this project.

The show’s production team is a blend of familiar faces and fresh perspectives, ensuring a series that is both innovative and grounded in the strength of previous successful Kenyan dramas.

The drama’s storyline revolves around four close-knit friends—Malik, Allan, Edu, and Michael—who are navigating the trials and rewards of life in Nairobi.

Portrayed by accomplished actors Daniel Weke (Mali), Elsaphan Njora (Kati Kati, Twende), Maina wa Ndungu (Kina, Volume), and Bilal Wanjau (Faithless), these characters explore themes of loyalty, ambition, and personal turmoil in the face of city life’s unpredictability.

The casting choices reflect the show’s focus on authentic, relatable portrayals of modern Kenyan men and their emotional journeys.

Also joining the cast are Patricia Kihoro (Crime and Justice, Rafiki), singer-actress Habida Moloney (Zari), and Tracy Macharia (Big Girl Small World), each of whom will bring their own unique talents to the ensemble, contributing to the series’ compelling dynamics.

Their performances are set to enrich the narrative and offer viewers a broader spectrum of experiences and perspectives.

The anticipation surrounding 4 Play is also tied to the broader evolution of Kenyan television.

As platforms like Showmax continue to showcase local content on a global scale, there is growing recognition of the diverse stories coming from East Africa.

4 Play is expected to reflect not only the complexities of modern life in Nairobi but also the broader socio-cultural challenges faced by men in today’s world.

Its honest, unapologetic approach to exploring personal relationships and ambitions is expected to resonate with viewers both in Kenya and beyond.

James Kombo, known for his previous work on Pepeta, brings a wealth of experience to 4 Play, with the help of his talented team of directors.

This series marks another significant step in the development of Kenyan TV content, continuing the trend of high-quality, locally produced stories that can stand up to international scrutiny.

The show’s debut promises to contribute to the ongoing transformation of Kenyan entertainment, further cementing the country’s place in the global television landscape.
