Haruna Iddrisu, formerly the Minority Leader, has agreed to the NDC’s rearrangement of its parliamentary leadership.

According to Myjoyonline close associates, Haruna Iddrisu has accepted changes in Minority leadership and he also appreciates the involvement of former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC Council of Elders (NDC).

It has been reported that Mr. Iddrisu prefers to keep a “golden silence” on the subject. On the other hand, he has promised his entire support to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and his new administration.

Former Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak also expressed his acceptance of the party’s decision on Facebook.

Background

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), announced a massive shake-up in the minority leader in Parliament. Per the decision, Haruna Iddrisu was no longer the Minority Leader, whereas Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, also lost his role as the Minority Chip Whip. However, 73 of the 137 minority MPs have signed a petition against it.

The party also made changes to other roles in a letter signed by its General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, and forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

NDC Member of Parliament for Asawase and other disgruntled MPs wanted the changes announced in the minority caucus leadership by the party suspended. Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, who addressed a news conference said the leaders of the caucus were never consulted before the changes.

The party on Tuesday, January 24, informed the Speaker of Parliament about a change to its leadership in Parliament. It only explained that the decision is in the best interest of the party.

Per the changes, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson took over from Haruna Iddrisu as the new Minority Leader. Ellembelle MP, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, will replace James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader.
