Call Kennedy Agyapong To Order – Prof Mike Oquaye To NPP

, Ghana Street Journal

Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament and a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, has called on the party’s leadership to take swift action and rein in the outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central constituency, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong.

The call from Prof. Mike Oquaye follows recent verbal attacks by Mr. Agyapong on the Minister for Works and Housing and MP for Bantama constituency, Honourable Francis Asenso Boakye.

The accusations revolve around alleged collusion with the judicial services to sell state lands to private developers, leading Mr. Agyapong to call for the rejection of Mr. Asenso-Boakye in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Addressing the situation, Prof. Mike Oquaye emphasized the need for the party’s elders and national executive to intervene, stating, “Kennedy Agyapong made a public statement that the elections were free and fair. In the interest of the party, I will think that the elders, of which I am one, and the national executive must put it on their agenda to ensure that everybody is put in a certain order.”

In response to the allegations, the Ministry of Works and Housing released a press statement refuting the claims, asserting that there has been no sale of the mentioned property.

The Ministry clarified that the ongoing developments were part of the Government Redevelopment Programme (GRP), which dates back to 1992.

Amid Mr. Agyapong’s ongoing criticisms within the party, calls are growing for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, to intervene.

Political analysts suggest that direct intervention may incur Agyapong’s displeasure, and alternative approaches may be needed to address internal party dynamics.

The NPP is gearing up for parliamentary candidate elections on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in constituencies where the party currently holds sitting MPs. These elections precede the general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
