Speed Darlington has taken a controversial jab at Burna Boy by questioning the legitimacy of his Grammy win, implying it was influenced by Diddy.
This sarcastic remark refers to Burna Boy’s collaboration with Diddy on his album Twice as Tall, which won the Best Global Music Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
Following the raid on Diddy’s properties in connection with serious allegations, Speed Darlington humorously speculated on whether Diddy had some unusual influence on Burna Boy’s success, referencing the baby oil seized during the raids.
His statement appears to mock the situation by connecting Diddy’s eccentric reputation to the Grammy win, sparking conversation and debate within Afrobeats and social media circles.
Burna Boy won his first Grammy Award on March 14, 2021, at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. He took home the Best Global Music Album award for his album “Twice as Tall.”
The album, which was executive produced by Diddy, was praised for its blend of Afrobeats with elements of reggae, dancehall, and international pop music.
This win made Burna Boy the first Nigerian artist to win a Grammy for his own body of work, solidifying his global impact in the music industry.
The award ceremony was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
