He has also confirmed that the recording was made in his office, situated opposite the Osu Police Station in the Greater Accra Region.

Appearing before the seven-member parliamentary Committee established to probe the circumstances surrounding the leaked tape on Monday, August 28, 2023, Bugri Naabu was asked if he saw himself as being connected to the tape. In response, he stated that his voice was present in the recording.

Revealing the list of individuals who were at his office and took part in the conversation, Mr Bugri Naabu mentioned the names of “One commander Asare, he is a police commander but I don’t know which district or region or which section he commands.

“Apart from Commander Asare, there was one man who also later joined called COP Mensah, he is on leave now. He is also part of it. Then later when the meeting was going on, I didn’t see the person who was on the phone. One J. B who is also a police Superintendent at the Police Headquarters. I haven’t seen him before… he was talking to me on the phone and listened to him on the phone.”

A seven-member parliamentary committee is currently probing the leaked tape that contained the voices of some prominent persons seeking to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The committee comprises of distinguished individuals, including Ms Ophelia Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantsiman Constituency, who retired from the Police Service in 2020 as a Chief Inspector with the Interpol Unit, and Superintendent (Retired) Peter Lanchene Toobu, a former Executive Secretary to the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu, and now Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West, both of whom are trained officers.

The committee is being chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea, a seasoned Lawyer and Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, with James Agalga, MP for Builsa North, serving as the Vice Chair. Other members of the committee include Patrick Yaw Boamah, MP for Okaikwei Central, and Eric Opoku, MP for Asunafo.

To further enhance the committee’s expertise, Dr Isaac Lartey Annan, a distinguished lawyer and human rights expert, will be joining the committee to provide valuable insights into the matter. The Special Committee has been granted a deadline of September 10, 2023, to submit its comprehensive report.
