Gospel musician Brother Sammy has stirred up discussions during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz, hosted by Empress Gifty, when he boldly defended the practice of staking lotto, dismissing any notion that it’s sinful.
“Staking lotto is not a sin. I don’t see anything wrong with it. We create a big fuss out of everything,” Brother Sammy stated firmly.
He went on to share a story about a pastor who had won the lotto and used the proceeds to help build his church.
“I remember a pastor who benefited from staking lotto to help build his church. I mean, I don’t see anything wrong with it,” he added, making a case for how lotto winnings could even serve a good purpose.
This statement from Brother Sammy, often regarded as one of the most influential gospel musicians in Ghana, touched on a highly sensitive topic within the Christian community.
Gambling in various forms, including staking lotto, is often frowned upon by religious leaders who see it as a practice rooted in materialism and greed.
However, Brother Sammy’s remarks challenge this widely held belief, suggesting that the moral implications depend on one’s intentions rather than the act itself.
He further emphasized that society tends to create unnecessary controversy over certain issues, noting that people’s motives and how they use the money earned from such activities should be more important than condemning the practice outright.
