The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has issued a strong condemnation of the brutal killing of Chinedu Stanley Asuzu, the brother of the late Nollywood actor Ernest Asuzu.
Chinedu, the brother of late Nollywood actor Ernest Asuzu, was shot dead by the assailants at his residence in Johannesburg South on December 16, 2024.
He was tragically shot and killed in South Africa, sparking outrage and grief within the Nigerian community.
In a statement released on Monday, December 22, and signed by NUSA’s National Publicity Secretary, Akindele Olunloyo, the organization expressed its commitment to ensuring justice for the bereaved family.
“NUSA is providing comprehensive support to the bereaved family. We strongly condemn this act of violence and urge South African law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. To our Nigerian community in South Africa: Stay safe, stay connected,” the statement read.
The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns for Nigerians living in South Africa, a country where xenophobic attacks have sporadically flared over the years.
Speaking on the issue, the President-General of NUSA attempted to contact Mrs. Busisiwe Sibanyoni, a key figure in the case, via telephone but was unable to reach her.
“A WhatsApp message was sent; however, she had not responded at the time of this report’s compilation,” the statement noted.
Efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event have intensified. “A witness who was at the scene of the shooting incident was contacted and provided the investigating officer’s details.
NUSA’s legal team followed up with the officer, confirming that a murder investigation has been launched and remains active,” the statement revealed.
Chinedu Stanley Asuzu’s death has plunged his family and the Nigerian community in South Africa into mourning.
NUSA’s leadership reiterated its commitment to working with local authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“The Nigerian Union South Africa will not rest until justice is served. Acts of violence like this must not go unpunished,” Akindele Olunloyo stated in a follow-up interview.
