Breast Cancer Should Be Treated As A National Crisis – Otumfuo

The ruler of the Ashanti empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a plea for public assistance in combating breast cancer in the country.

The King stated that Beatrice Wiafe Addai and her team, who have been the public face of the battle against breast cancer in Ghana, cannot do it alone.
He made the request after Breast Care International (BCI) President, Beatrice Wiafe Addai led a delegation of partners to notify the King of their desire to build an oncology facility in the area.

“Breast cancer should be treated as a national crisis and therefore must not be left to Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai alone. She needs the support of everyone in the country in her quest to save our women from dying,” Otumfuo said.

The Asantehene, who has been a strong advocate for the fight against breast cancer, donated 52 acres of land to Peace and Love Hospital for the construction of the oncology hospital project.

According to Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, the hospital would be fully responsible for cancer treatments, which will be a comfort for those who would otherwise have to go abroad for expensive treatments.

She said that in honour of his tireless efforts in the battle against breast cancer, the finished facility would be called the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Breast Cancer Research and Treatment Centre.
