Bodies Of Late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, Wife And Son Arrive In Nigeria For Burial

The mortal remains of Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings, together with those of his son and wife, have arrived in Nigeria to be buried with his wife and children.

The photo, as sighted by Tru News Report reveals their bodies were well preserved, kept in paper bags, and resting on metal carriers when they arrived at the airport in Nigeria.

The funeral of the trio will be held on Saturday at Isiokpo, his hometown, in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State.

Tragically, Mr Wigwe passed away in a helicopter accident on February 9, 2024, while en route to attend the Super Bowl LVIII championship in Las Vegas.

Reports from The New York Times when the incident happened indicated that the helicopter, a Eurocopter EC130, crashed near the California-Nevada border.

Sources close to the banker confirmed that Mr Wigwe, his wife, and his son were among the passengers on the ill-fated helicopter.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, California, an unincorporated community approximately 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County.

The Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) reported the incident, stating that the crash site was east of Interstate 15, near Halloran Springs Road.

Investigations into the crash were conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (N.T.S.B.) and the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.). Representatives from the N.T.S.B.

Mr. Wigwe, a prominent Nigerian banker and entrepreneur, served as the group managing director and CEO of Access Bank Plc, a leading financial institution in Nigeria.

He began his professional journey at Coopers & Lybrand and Guaranty Trust Bank before transitioning to Access Bank in 2002 as the deputy managing director.

In January 2014, he assumed the role of chief executive officer.
