Nigerian social media personality and cross-dresser, Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, for defamatory and blackmail allegations.
The lawsuit, which demands a staggering N1 billion in damages, is rooted in claims that VeryDarkMan used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create and disseminate malicious audio clips intended to tarnish Bobrisky’s reputation.
On Sunday, September 28, 2024, Bobrisky made his legal stance public by sharing the details of the lawsuit via social media.
The suit was filed by his legal representative, R.T. Omuvwie & Co., and outlines specific demands, including a public apology and the cessation of all defamatory content.
Bobrisky’s legal team has demanded that VeryDarkMan publish a written apology in two national newspapers, accompanied by a video-recorded apology shared across all his social media platforms.
Additionally, VeryDarkMan is required to provide an undertaking to refrain from publishing any further defamatory content about Bobrisky.
One of the critical issues Bobrisky’s legal team raised is that the defamatory audio clips were allegedly generated using AI, raising concerns about the growing misuse of technology for blackmail and defamation.
Bobrisky asserts that this content not only attacked his personal reputation but also led to significant emotional and financial damages.
The legal notice issued by Bobrisky’s lawyers is strict in its demands, giving VeryDarkMan just 24 hours to comply with the requests, which include the payment of N1 billion in damages. Should VeryDarkMan fail to meet these demands, the letter makes it clear that Bobrisky will pursue legal redress in a court with competent jurisdiction.
“We therefore demand in addition on behalf of our client a written apology published in two national to be published in two national daily newspapers, a video recording of your apology to our client published on all your social media platforms, an undertaking to desist from reporting, publishing defamatory contents against our client and the payment in favour of our client the sum of N1,000,000,000 as damages within 24 hours of the letter on you via social media or any other means,” the letter reads.
“Your failure to fulfil and take advantage of the alternative dispute resolution mechanism introduced and stated in paragraph 10 and 11 of this demand notice, we shall seek legal redress in a court with competent jurisdiction immediately without any further notices to you. We hope this can be resolved within the next 24hours.”
