Singer Esther Smith has expressed that the primary responsibility for Ghana’s challenges lies with the citizens rather than President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The musician, who returned to Ghana from the UK to perform two successful concerts in Accra and Kumasi a decade after her departure, noted that she has observed various aspects of Ghanaian behaviour that have contributed to the country’s difficulties.
She emphasized that the deterioration is largely attributable to the citizens themselves, citing greed and other corrupt practices that they perpetuate.
“The way I see our country the individuals in our nation don’t help because even if things don’t go well in people’s lives the only person they blame is the President.
We want the President to do everything in this country but some of the things which don’t augur well aren’t only supposed to be done by the president,” she told Amansan Krakye on Property FM.
Adding, “Since I came back from abroad I’ve realized that the Tema motorway has so many potholes but the government might have given money to a contractor to do it.
“But the contractor might use inferior materials to repair the road in order to make so much money and within a short time, we might have potholes on the motorway again which can lead to death.
“So the government isn’t supposed to be blamed for everything but we the individuals deserve part of the blame for why the country is fast deteriorating,” she argued.
