‘Big Nyash’ Major Cause Of Accidents In Ghana- NRSA PRO

Statistically, Ghana has been identified as one of the most dangerous places to drive, with a high number of fatalities resulting from road accidents.

A report by the Bureau of Public Safety in 2020 brought to light the situation that transportation-related events reported for the year 2019 were dominated by road transport events.

According to the report, “147 cases monitored accounted for 915 casualties representing 45% of all casualties recorded. This makes Ghana’s roads the most dangerous place to be in Ghana, as it accounts for the majority of deaths and injuries contributed by a single public safety index,”

And to reinforce this notion. the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Road Safety Authority, Pearl Adusu Sateckla has said that a major contributing factor to these accidents in Ghana is some men being distracted by big buttocks instead of focusing on the road.

Pearl Adusu Sateckla shared this bizarre information during an appearance on the Auto Show on Citi FM in Accra, where she referenced research to back up her statement.

“Men are in the majority. Men like watching big buttocks and that is part of the inattentiveness on our roads. A lot of drivers are inattentive, fidgeting with their phones, fidgeting with their radios and not paying attention it causes a lot of crashes”.

She was of the view that women are more attentive on the road.

During the first six months of 2022, Ghana witnessed a significant number of 246 people losing their lives due to road accidents.

In June alone, there were 15 deaths and injuries related to transportation, marking a difference of 25 compared to the preceding month.

Additionally, the highest number of individuals affected by road accidents occurred in January, with a staggering count of 63.
