In the world of music, it’s easy to think that a song’s journey begins when it’s recorded and ends when it’s released. But according to gospel singer Empress Gifty, the story behind a song is often much deeper—and sometimes, the battles begin long before anyone hears the first note.
Speaking to Jerry Justice on Adom FM, Empress Gifty opened up about the unseen struggles many artists face when they’re preparing to release new music.
“Sometimes, you go through attacks before a song comes out,” she shared, her words resonating with the weight of experience.
“The kind of challenges you face… it’s because the song will touch lives, so you need to be spiritually strong and fit.”
For Empress Gifty, it’s clear that releasing a song, especially one with a meaningful or spiritual message, is not just about the technical work in the studio or the marketing push that follows.
It’s a process that demands emotional and spiritual resilience. The struggles she refers to aren’t just professional setbacks or creative blocks. They’re deeper, often personal battles that test an artist’s faith and focus.
It’s not unusual for artists, particularly those in gospel, to speak about the importance of being spiritually grounded in their work.
But Empress Gifty sheds light on an aspect that is often less discussed—the challenges that arise when you’re about to share something truly powerful. According to her, the bigger the message, the greater the resistance.
She also touched on a reality that many artists face post-release: the temptation to lose focus.
“That’s why some people stop doing interviews when they release new songs,” she explained.
“They lose focus, sometimes even becoming too focused on the money instead of promoting the message.”
