Bedtime Brushing Is More Effective Than Doing So In The Morning- Ghanaian Healthcare Professional

A healthcare professional at Bongo District Hospital, Emmanuel Agana Ayamga has held that brushing one’s teeth in the evening is more effective than in the morning, despite the recommendation to brush both in the mornings and evenings.

Ayamga, a seasoned Physician Assistant, emphasized that since there is minimal oral activity at night, brushing before bed is more effective in preventing bacterial growth on the teeth, ultimately reducing the risk of tooth decay.

This information was shared during an interview with A1 Radio in Bolgatanga regarding oral health maintenance.

“By diligently brushing before bedtime, people can mitigate the risks associated with bacterial growth and decay, consequently safeguarding their oral well-being.

This period allows for a more focused and meticulous removal of food particles and plaque, which will prevent the accumulation of these particles overnight,” he advised.

In addition, Dental Arizona emphasizes the importance of brushing your teeth at night before bed.

This is because your mouth produces less saliva during the night, making it easier for cavity-causing bacteria to thrive. By brushing before bed, you can effectively remove these bacteria and prevent cavities.

It is also recommended to avoid eating or drinking anything, except for water, after brushing your teeth at night.

Flossing before bed is another crucial step as it helps remove food particles that can feed bacteria while you sleep. To provide extra protection, rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash is highly recommended before going to sleep.
