Nigerian singer Syro has called on celebrities to embrace humility and kindness, reminding them of their responsibility to the public.
Syro’s powerful reflection emphasized that being a celebrity is not a birthright but a privilege, one that should be used for good rather than for self-glorification.
“Being a celebrity is a privilege and an opportunity, not anyone’s birthright,” Syro wrote in his post.
He pointed out that fame does not make celebrities superior to others, stating, “It doesn’t make us different from anyone else; we’ve only found grace. It’s not for us to isolate ourselves and turn ourselves into gods, constantly expecting to be worshipped and praised while being unkind to our fellow humans.”
Syro’s message was inspired by a personal experience with late Nigerian musician Sound Sultan, whose kindness had a profound impact on him. He shared a story that highlighted the true character of Sound Sultan, a figure he admired both on and off the stage.
“I once saw Sound Sultan chasing after a thief that stole someone’s phone at a party in trying to help someone he doesn’t even know… like proper chasing o, he ran after the guy like Usain Bolt,” Syro recalled, adding that it was a moment that forever changed him.
“That for me, out of the many things I saw him do, was a moment of truth. It changed me.”

For Syro, this act of kindness from Sound Sultan was more than just an isolated event—it was a defining example of how celebrities should use their influence for good.
“He is gone now, but his legacy lives on. A little kindness will go a long way,” Syro said, reflecting on how this lesson stayed with him long after Sound Sultan’s passing.
In his post, Syro issued a direct appeal to young and upcoming celebrities, urging them to avoid hostility and arrogance.
“My message is most especially to the young and upcoming celebrities. Please, no gain in hostility, and also remember, the same God that gives can take.”
He continued by encouraging his fellow stars to embrace their humanity and show kindness, no matter their status. “Why not be human? Why not show some little kindness? It will go a long way.”
Syro went on to explain how witnessing Sound Sultan’s kindness shaped his own actions as a celebrity. “I do the little I do today because a man called ‘Sound Sultan’ chose to be kind. I saw him show kindness when he didn’t have to.”
His plea to fellow celebrities was clear: their actions have significant ripple effects on the lives of others.
“Your actions as a celebrity have ripple effects on people, so be careful. You can kill millions of destinies just by moving wrong, and yet you can give life by doing right.”
By following in the footsteps of Sound Sultan and choosing kindness, Syro believes that celebrities can inspire positive change and leave a lasting impact on those who look up to them.
