“Bawumia Will Occupy A Comfortable Place In The Guinness Book Of Lies” – Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia a “liar” for saying that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had produced 2.1 million jobs for Ghanaians.

After a health walk in Mpraeso-Kwahu in the Eastern Region on Saturday, April 8, 2023, Vice President Bawumia addressed a large crowd of NPP supporters and announced that 2.1 million new jobs had been created by the Akufo-Addo government since the NPP took power.

According to information provided to him, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the governing New Patriotic Party has produced 2.1 million jobs for Ghanaians.

He detailed how 1.2 million of the 2.1 million new jobs were in the public sector and 975,000 were in the private sector.

According to him, this makes the NPP the only administration in the country’s history to have produced more employment than it did during its time in office.

Dr Bawumia said:

“During the NDC administration, there were no jobs, they created unemployment instead of employment but these days there are jobs everywhere. I have been looking at the data lately and we have created 2.1 million jobs.”

“975, 000 are in the private sector, 1.2 million in the public sector, this is verifiable and identifiable data which is available. We are not done yet because there are more jobs for us to create. But when it comes to job creation, no government since independence has created more jobs than the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, anybody can challenge me and I will provide the data.”

“But we want to do more, we want to get to the promised land. We can be a Dubai, we can a South Korea, we can a Singapore, it is possible.”

Sammy Gyamfi, on the other hand, has refuted the Vice President’s claims, asserting that the unemployment rate, as reported by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), has actually doubled. In a Facebook post, he wrote:

“Official rate of unemployment has almost doubled from 8.4% in 2016 to 14% as at 2021, according to the GSS. Youth unemployment is at an all-time high. Massive job losses have become the order of the day due to the economic mismanagement of the Bawumia-led EMT. Yet, our unrepentant liar of a VEEP claims his government has created 2.1 million jobs. What a joke! The name BAWUMIA will forever occupy a comfortable place in the Guinness book of lies.”
