Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to provide free tertiary education for Ghanaians with disabilities if he emerges victorious in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and current flagbearer of the party pledged this commitment during a meeting with religious leaders in the Western North Region as part of his extensive tour across the country.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that while scholarships are typically available to a wide range of individuals, his administration will place special emphasis on granting scholarships to those with disabilities.
“I am very clear on the way forward. I believe that for persons with disabilities, we are going to support them a bit more.
“We are giving scholarships to every person but I am going to dedicate some of the monies to our scholarship secretariat and the GET Fund to provide free tertiary education; both tuition and accommodation to every person with a disability who makes it into the university so they can all benefit,” he stated.
The presidential candidate of the NPP emphasized that starting from 2025, the scholarship will encompass both academic and residential expenses for individuals with disabilities.
In a previous conversation, the Vice President expressed his conviction that he can be an instrument of change for Ghana through divine intervention.
“I believe that I can do something for Ghana. I believe God uses everybody that he wants to use to change the society…I believe that something good can come from Walewale and if God says that it should come from Walewale it will come from Walewale,” he stated.
