Ayra Starr recently graced the stage of ‘The Tonight Show’ hosted by Jimmy Fallon for her debut appearance on American television.
The Nigerian singer captivated the audience with a dynamic performance of tracks from her latest album, ‘The Year I Turned 21.’
Kicking off with the soulful ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ featuring Giveon, she concluded her set with the infectious Afrobeats hit, ‘Woman Commando’ featuring Anitta and Coco Jones.
This milestone solidifies Ayra Starr’s presence alongside other Nigerian music sensations such as Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Asake, Fireboy DML, and Rema who have all graced the renowned stage of ‘The Tonight Show.’
Starr rose to prominence in early 2021 with her self-titled debut EP and its popular single “Away”, which held the number four spot on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 chart for two weeks.
The track also reached number 17 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart, setting the stage for the release of her first full-length album, 19 & Dangerous (2021).
Primarily classified as Afropop and R&B, the EP garnered positive reviews and produced two top forty hits in Nigeria.
The lead single “Bloody Samaritan” claimed the top spot on the Top 50 chart, making Starr the first female artist to achieve this feat with a solo track.
Additionally, Starr made her debut on the Pandora Predictions chart and, on 28 August 2021, secured the number three position on Billboard’s Next Big Sound.
