Award-Winning Abigail Ashley Speaks About Balancing School With Her Media Job

Renowned TV and radio personality Abigail Ashley was named the best student at GH Fashion School’s recent graduation ceremony.

She took home awards for Best Student, Most Promising Fashion Student, Best in Garment Construction, and Best in Fashion Business. She is the host of UTV and Okay FM’s “My Health, My Life”, “Mo Ho Y3,” a health advocate, and the creator of the Behind My Smiles Foundation to raise awareness about kidney health, respectively.

Ms. Ashley, now a fashion designer, spoke with Graphic Showbiz about balancing school with her media job, saying, “For the first year, that’s 2021, I was still home recovering from the Kidney Transplant coupled with COVID 19, so it was quite easy, but later when I resumed to work, it was tiring.

“I had to switch the morning school to afternoon school because I’m on the morning show team during the weekdays on both TV and Radio and work starts by 5:30 a.m.”

Her dedication to the fashion industry, she said, was what kept her going.

“It was not easy, but the passion kept going, GH Fashion School is purely 70 percent practical and 30 percent theory, so if you miss a class, you are in trouble. Sometimes you get home with so many sewing assignments but you need to finish, and Abigail Ashley from UTV I have to do my work, so you can imagine the pressure,” she said.

Ms. Ashley stated that boredom was what gave her the spark for her venture into the fashion industry.

“I got bored staying home the whole year. Remember, I had my kidney transplant in December 2019, and in 2020 COVID-19 set in with lockdown, and my case was extraordinary, so I had to stay back for infection prevention, etc.

“So, in January 2021, I said to myself, I need to acquire a new skill, and fashion came to mind. Even though I’ve never touched a machine before, I want to do something new, and I made it. In the end, I made myself proud. There is nothing you put your mind to that you can’t do; everything is possible. Just believe in yourself. The hurdles will be there, but keep your focus,” she stated, as quoted by Graphiconline.
