Attorney General Slaps Fresh Charges On NAM1

A report filed by 3News reveals that the Attorney General’s Department has lodged additional charges against Nana Appiah Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the now-defunct gold dealership firm Menzgold Ghana Limited, who is commonly referred to as NAM1.

The charges, which amount to 39 in total, were submitted to the Accra High Court on August 30th. In addition to Menzgold, NAM1’s other defunct company, Brew Marketing Consult, has also been included in the lawsuit.

The defendants have been accused of various offenses, including defrauding by false pretense, which is in violation of Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

In the same vein, Lawyer Amanda Clinton, who represents aggrieved Menzgold customers, recently revealed that NAM 1 took steps to ensure that he had a few properties registered in his name.

She claimed that although they had obtained a judgment against NAM 1, they were unable to enforce it since the Menzgold buildings and all the companies he owned, as well as the cars, were not in his name.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 with Alfred Ocansey, she said, “He deliberately made sure he didn’t own a lot of properties in his name, so these are the things that went against us… Yes, we got judgment for a lot of people, but a lot of the assets have been dissipated essentially… so assets-wise, we weren’t able to get anything, which is why it’s very interesting.”

On Monday, August 22, 2023, Nana Appiah Mensah stated that he had lost everything due to the company’s demise during a discussion on Twitter Space. Amid a myriad of accusations against him, Nana Appiah Mensah chose this forum to set the record straight and assure his customers that he has not personally benefited from their money.

“If you want to crown the biggest loser in all of this thing, I am the one, because I lost everything: I lost all my properties, and I don’t even have a car of my own in this country.”
