Ashiaman: Man Robbed And Killed While Withdrawing Money From ATM

According to reports, a man withdrawing money from an ATM was attacked and killed by unknown assailants at Ashaiman.

The report adds that the deceased’s pregnant wife was admitted to a local hospital, and he needed money for her treatment. While obtaining cash from his bank’s ATM, which was conveniently located near the hospital, he was confronted by unidentified individuals who robbed and fatally attacked him.

Initially, when news began circulating on social media, reports suggested that the man who was attacked was a soldier. However, further information obtained from Graphic indicates that the man’s identity has yet to be established.

According to Graphic’s account of the incident, it took place around 4:30 am on Thursday near Goodness Filling Station at Ashaiman Main Trotro Station. Witnesses stated that the victim was holding a bag containing money and a phone when he was approached by a group of criminals.

Yaw Kwakye, a trader at the Ashaiman Main Trotro Station, informed Graphic Online that he heard the criminal gang attack the victim and demand the bag and other personal belongings. However, the victim resisted their attempts. Unfortunately, during the struggle, he was allegedly stabbed in the stomach.

Ever since news broke about this horrific murder, who some people still believe was a soldier, the residents of the area have been living in fear of a possible retaliatory attack from the military, similar to what they experienced last year.

Recall that in March 2023, a group of soldiers besieged Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra in the Greater Accra region, and subjected the residents to brutal treatment.

According to various news outlets, including Citi News, a group of heavily armed soldiers, estimated to be around 20 in number, stormed the area and began assaulting the residents, preventing them from leaving their homes.

This invasion by the soldiers follows the tragic incident where a 22-year-old soldier from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band in Sunyani, Bono Region, was reportedly stabbed to death by unidentified attackers on Saturday morning.

The soldier, who was returning from his girlfriend’s house in Taifa and heading towards his residence in Zongo-Laka, Ashaiman, was targeted in this unfortunate incident.

Although the soldier had a laptop and other electronic devices, the attackers only managed to steal his iPhone, as reported by the Daily Guide Network.
