In a bold move to rejuvenate Ghana’s film and creative arts industry, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has officially commissioned a 17-member Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood).
The committee has been tasked with revitalizing Kumawood and ensuring sustainable growth for the broader Ghanaian film industry.
“Today, I officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.
The committee’s mandate includes assessing the current state of the industry, identifying challenges, and developing policies that will attract investment.
It will also focus on promoting Ghanaian films locally and internationally, strengthening production infrastructure, and creating more training opportunities for filmmakers and actors.

Additionally, the team will work on enhancing film festivals and cultural showcases while fostering stronger collaborations among key stakeholders in the creative space.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the need for unity and commitment in executing this vision.
“I urged the committee members to carry out their mandate with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of unity to ensure that Kumawood and the entire creative industry reach new heights.
“Together, we will build a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana!”
The establishment of this committee signals a renewed governmental focus on Kumawood, a once-thriving film industry that played a crucial role in Ghana’s entertainment landscape.
