Multiple international sources have confirmed actor Akili McDowell has been arrested for the murder of a 20-year-old man.
The 21-year-old actor, recognized for his performances in “Billions” and “David Makes Man,” was arrested last week about a deadly shooting, as reported by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Gonzalez posted on Facebook that “Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an incident that occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex” on July 20.
Upon their arrival, authorities discovered 20-year-old Cesar Peralta suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The report indicated that the suspects had fled the area.
The connection between McDowell and the incident, as well as his relationship with Peralta, remains unclear. The young actor has been booked into the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas.
Additionally, McDowell is facing theft charges, with a bond amounting to $400,210 for both offences, as per online jail records.
He is scheduled to appear in court for the theft charges later this week, while the murder charges will not be addressed until October. Jonell Whitt, his manager, referred to the murder as “an unfortunate situation” in a statement to Law & Crime.
“I am in prayer for Akili and those impacted by this tragedy,” Whitt said.
McDowell gained fame at 15 when he secured the lead role in “David Makes Man,” a coming-of-age story about a 14-year-old boy who “lives in the projects but attends a magnet school for academically gifted youngsters.”
