Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul Razak, popularly known as Chef Faila, has been making waves not only for her culinary prowess but also for her dedication to community development.

Her recent attempt at the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon brought her into the spotlight, but Chef Faila’s goals transcend records, as she seeks to uplift her community and provide opportunities for the youth in Northern Ghana.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, Chef Faila shared her motivations behind her cooking marathon, revealing her deep passion for putting Northern Ghana on the map.

“Prior to the cooking marathon, I was simply a young woman from Northern Ghana, driven by passion to make a meaningful impact in my community,” she said.

Her ultimate goal was to use her platform to highlight the richness of the north and elevate Ghana’s global profile through her culinary skills.

Though she didn’t break the record, Chef Faila gained something far more significant than a title. “It was just a dream before my attempt. However, the GWR attempt proved to be a transformative experience, far exceeding my expectations.

Although I didn’t break the record, I gained something more valuable in terms of visibility, connections, and a platform to amplify my vision,” she remarked.

Through the process, Faila attracted the attention of influential individuals, building strong relationships and gaining support for her community-driven initiatives.

With her newfound platform, Chef Faila has pivoted toward establishing a culinary school in Northern Ghana. Her aim is to offer an alternative path for young girls in the region, providing them with valuable skills in the culinary arts.

“Education and skill development are key to unlocking the potential of our youth. By providing a platform for these girls to learn culinary arts, I am certain I will not only be equipping them with valuable skills but also offering a viable alternative to migrating down south and early marriage,” she passionately explained.

Her vision for the culinary school extends beyond basic training. “The school will provide comprehensive training, focusing on traditional Northern Ghanaian cuisine with modern twists, as well as entrepreneurship and business management. There will also be mentorship and networking opportunities,” Chef Faila elaborated.

Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak, popularly known as Chef Faila, took part in a cooking marathon that started on January 1, 2024 and ended on January 10, 2024.

During this period, she cooked for an incredible 227 hours, attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Although her effort exceeded a previous record set by a Ugandan chef, it was not officially recognized by Guinness at the time.

Despite this, Chef Faila’s effort brought her significant recognition, both locally and internationally, for her culinary skills and dedication to showcasing Northern Ghanaian cuisine
