All You Need to Know About Nigeria Presidential Election 2023

This is Nigeria’s seventh straight general election since the Fourth Republic began in 1999. With presidential contenders representing the Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa/Fulani ethnic groups, anticipation is strong that this election would be unlike any other in history.

LP’s candidate is Mr. Peter Obi, an Igbo who served as governor of Anambra State. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Yoruba and a candidate for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), who previously served as Governor of Lagos State for two terms, is one of the leading candidates. Similarly to departing President Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a Fulani political figure. He’s representing the largest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Despite widespread concerns that this year’s presidential election is too close to call and may require a runoff for the first time in history, some are optimistic about the rise of LP as a ‘Third Force’ alternative to the two established parties in the country.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to increase the use of technology in the 2023 elections has also been praised by everyone.

Reactionary forces, on the other hand, have run both open and secret campaigns to undermine the effectiveness of INEC’s technology-based voting procedures.

Furthermore, some powerful but dishonest politicians are winning despite the Federal Government’s efforts to clean up the country’s highly monetised politics and elections by introducing the new Naira redesign policy, which aims to flush out the billions of currencies allegedly hoarded for buying of votes on Election Day. But they got inside the banks and took out the new Naira currency.

Concerns have been raise that money may still play a role in deciding the outcome of today’s presidential election in light of this development.
