Former Trades and Industry Minister and presidential candidate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, will kick off his campaign tour of Greater Accra region on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

On Monday, he appeared before the nine-member vetting committee of the Party. After completing the process, Mr. Kyerematen addressed the media and discussed his plans to take a fresh approach to running his campaign.

He explained that he will be grouping constituencies together and getting party leaders to work together not just on their own, but also in other areas in the group. He explained that the strategy is to group constituencies and get party officials to work together from different constituencies inside the same cluster.

“I have decided that I will introduce an innovation into my constituency tour by clustering constituencies for the purpose of bringing my Party’s executives together, not just within their own constituency, or in a few other constituencies in the cluster that will help energise the rank and file of our Party… It’s all about making sure that we work together as a Party in our march towards victory 2024,” he said.

On Monday, the NPP began its screening process for potential candidates. The Party also vetted Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Energy Expert Mr. Kwadwo Poku.

Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyepong are all scheduled to be vetted on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Mr. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong, will testify before the vetting committee on Thursday, followed by Mr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, an Economist; Mr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Food and Agriculture Minister; and Mr. Joe Ghartey, a former Railway Minister, on Wednesday.

If the committee approves five of the ten candidates who are competing for the position, the Party will have a special delegates conference with 900 delegates to pare down the number of candidates to five before its National Congress on November 4.
