Carlos Ahenkorah, the Member of Parliament for Tema West, has been campaigning for Alan Kyeremanten to lead the party in the 2024 elections.

According to him, the former Minister of Trade and Industry is the kind of candidate the ruling party needs. He thinks the time has come for the group to get someone from its stronghold, Ashanti Region.

“Politics is about numbers. If you say your stronghold is a particular area and you cannot get the maximum votes from there, can you win? We all here know that, as for the NPP, since the return to multi-party rule, our stronghold is the Ashanti Region… So if the party wants someone who will become president, we need someone who has political capital in the Ashanti Region,” he stated.

He went on to say that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a whole should think about a candidate who can help the party gain votes in the opposition’s stronghold and that since the Volta Region, the heartland of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has guaranteed him their votes, he would be the ideal choice for the NPP.

“Apart from that, we need a candidate who can also make inroads into the opposition stronghold, which is the Volta Region. It is not the case that the Volta Region does not like the NPP,” he added.

Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen‘s campaign team, led by market queens, picked up nomination forms on his behalf for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries on May 31, 2023.

Mr. Kyeremanten isn’t the only NPP member to have already picked up an election form. So far, ten people have picked up nomination forms to run for the flagbearer race. Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Party Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh, Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afryie Akoto, and Energy Analyst Kwadwo Poku have all taken up forms for the flagbearer race.
