Akufo-Addo Has Hijacked NPP – Buaben Asamoa Says As He Predicts Doom For Bawumia

Yaw Buaben Asamoa, a former Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency (NPP), has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of taking control of the party and imposing his will on members.

Asamoa expressed concern that the party has deviated from its original ideals and believes that the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections will have consequences. Asamoa has openly supported NPP stalwart Alan Kyerematen, who has broken away to run as an independent candidate and does not believe that the party chose the right leader for the task ahead.

“I don’t believe the leader they have chosen to choose because they were compelled to choose [him]. I don’t believe that leader cuts it. I don’t believe he can deliver it. And it’s not about him as a person, I have nothing against his person or personality. It’s about the times. It’s about who Ghana is seeking to lead them now,” he said on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday.

After being accused by the party, along with three others, of openly campaigning for the defeated flagbearer aspirant Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, his reactions came swiftly. As a result of their actions, their membership was revoked for violating the party’s constitution.

The individuals involved in this controversy are Hopeson Adorye, a parliamentary candidate who was defeated in the elections; Nana Ohene Ntow, a former General Secretary; Boniface Abubakar Saddique, a former Zongo Minister; and Yaw Buaben Asamoa.

It has been reported that they openly declared their support for Alan Kyerematen, a former NPP presidential aspirant who decided to break away from the ruling party and establish the “Butterfly Movement” after his disappointing performance at the NPP Super Delegates Conference, which aimed to select the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
