Akuffo Addo’s Return To The IMF Has Made “Ghana Beyond Aid” A Slogan – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the Akufo-Addo administration’s pledge to end the country’s reliance on foreign aid is becoming a laughingstock because of the NPP’s decision to return to the IMF.

According to John Mahama, President Akufo-Addo’s policies haven’t done anything to advance national development or help ordinary Ghanaians. To revive Ghana’s economy and work towards long-term financial stability, the CEO Network of Ghana and other stakeholders came together for the 2023 Ghana CEO Summit.

During the 7th Ghana CEO Summit and Expo in Accra on Monday, May 22, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the Akufo-Addo administration has damaged Ghana’s reputation.

“Economic sovereignty in this modern era, viewed through the length of viable, healthy, and beneficial interdependence and inter-relatedness, must become the foundation for social growth and progress. And the quest for economic oriented must certainly go beyond the flowery and impactless speech about Ghana Beyond Aid.” he stated.

Mr. Mahama used the ineffective policy orientation of the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda as an example. He claims that the much-touted vow to end the country’s reliance on foreign aid has been reduced to a mere slogan owing to a lack of meaningful execution on the ground.

“Indeed, our return to the IMF, cup in hand, has made our Ghana Beyond Aid policy the butt of jokes amongst many commentators in the world. It will take a resolute and committed political will to determine our own economic destiny.”

In addition, Mr. Mahama said, it will require the ability to determine our own economic policies, make decisions that prioritise the well-being of our citizens, and create an environment conducive to the advancement of sustainable growth and development for job creation.”
